DJ Anj at SL18B

My great friend DJ Anjoux Herbit played a set at the Second Life 18th Birthday (SL18B) Celebrations on Saturday at Midnight my time, I just had to stay up and attend!

A few of his regulars and some new groupies were there too:

Rainbow Relay

Yesterday saw the start of American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay Weekend. There are 36 regions in a circuit similar to Fantasy Faire but larger, with a track running through them all.

You can take laps around this track in aid of Relay For Life. There are themed builds along both sides of the entire track (known as campsites) that you can stop and explore, as well as donation vendors everywhere, so you can chip in your own contribution, which will usually also yield a gift item of some kind. I was able to snag one of the Ultra-rare Cancer Aware wishbears from a gatcha vendor.

This is just a sample of some of the fantastic builds by the track, you can see more I took in this Flickr Album.

The scheduled events run through to 5pm SLT/PST on Sunday 13th June, you can see the schedule on the ACS SecondLife website. Update: The track regions will be available “at least” until Thursday 17th so you have plenty of time to get over there and do a lap!

Edit 14th June:

Why rainbows? I didn’t intend to mix meanings here, wearing a Pride (Rainbow) outfit to a Relay (Purple) event. Its quite simple, I wasn’t originally intending to blog the Relay (just do a lap) until I was part way around and saw all the beautiful builds, it was simply what I was already wearing when I got there.

A Vampires Late Dinner

After a spontaneous snap I posted on Flickr I thought another was in order, but this time with a friend, since we’d been planning to do something together for a while. One snap turned into several and then into a story.

I pace my room glancing frequently at the clock, where has she got to I wonder. I want to take our time to be relaxed, but the longer I must wait, the worse my thirst gets.

Waiting impatiently

Will I be able to restrain myself when she arrives, long enough for her to feel relaxed. A little bit of adrenaline in the blood from excitement is good, but I’m not in the mood for the taste of fear tonight, if I rush, that’s what I’ll get.

When she does arrive she’s very giggly and flirty, almost throwing herself at me, not her usual self. She’s drunk. She knows why she’s come here, maybe she got nervous, I did advise her against drinking, but I guess a little alcohol is better than fear.

Appetiser drinks

A few glass or two as we sit and get comfy, then my thirst gets the better of me. I stand to remove my coat and move in close in front of her, staring into her eyes before taking her hand and a small bite from her wrist.

I slip her off the couch to kneel in front of me and hold her in a tight embrace as I feed from her eagerly.

Devouring the Main course

Sensing she’s getting weak, sagging in my arms, I lift her effortlessly to lie across my lap to few more sips from her chest

Drained Embrace

before I stop and raise her into an embrace, as she passes out.

Fecked after the party

A night of revelry with a group of old friends and the return of DJ Anjoux Herbit to SL after two years away. We missed him!

I arrived early to find Anj warming up the stage:

Anj warming up the stage.

It wasn’t long before the music started and everyone started to arrive, in ones and twos the dancefloor began to fill up with familiar and new faces.

Ava finished the night at Durty Feckers and after some over consumption of Amber nectar she posed looking all flirty on the pool table with mischief (and Whisky) in her eyes. Alas she’s had too much and with all the dancing it was time to pass out. Her place felt far too far away though, so this conveniently located, felt-topped bed will do just fine!

Party location no longer there.

Would you trust these two to save the Galaxy?

After seeing Isabelles fab post about Cyber Fair I thought it would be fun to do a little collaboration. So she invited me over and we had a nice little chat about what to do and tried stuff out until we got some great shots worked out. I absolutely love this one and had great fun taking it.

Don’t Undervalue a Virtual Hug

I woke up the other morning and really wanted a hug, in these current times such things are no longer to be taken for granted.

So we do “virtual hugs”..in the Real world (*rolls eyes*). This is not what I’m referring to here though. Not the extending our arms and waving them about in an impersonation of a hug at someone stood 2 metres away. Some people may get some comfort from this gesture but for me, it just looks ridiculous and doesn’t really trigger the emotional response we need, so I don’t do it.

I’m also not talking about emoji and gifs (although the latter are usually more heartfelt) expressing the same sentiments.

What I’m referring to is something like this:

Pic by Strawberry Linden.

This photo was taken in Secondlife because that’s my playground. You could achieve the same thing in other virtual environments. (But SL’s the best!)

The key though is emotional attachment, if you form an emotional attachment to your avatar, what happens to your avatar triggers an emotional response for you. In this case the sensation of closeness to another human being, even if what your eyes are seeing is pixel people. In your head it’s a virtual “you”, the other person wants to share this moment with you and that is the point. This doesn’t work for some people I know that, they just see pixels on a screen and it triggers nothing, to me they’re missing out.

So come Valentines Day, (or any day you feel you need one) if you can’t be near someone for a Physical hug, come into SL and get a proper Virtual Hug.

I didn’t capture the hug I got that day, but it inspired me to write this, the picture above was taken at Second Life Book Club.

What SecondLife is about for me

Last night I watched Mika Snow interview the inspirational Strawberry Singh, blogger turned Linden. Following on from my post yesterday, I’ve another fun dancing snap. As I said yesterday, to me SL is about friendship, it’s also about Fun!

How people have their fun in SL can vary considerably in a world where pretty much anything is possible, but me right now it’s these simple things.

Strawberry echoed this yesterday, when she said that as a newbie, this was mostly what she (and most newbies) did; Made friends, danced and partied.

Ava is now waaay beyond the newbie phase at age 7 in SL, but I still love a good party. So much so I recently took a hosting job at Ohana Rock Club, which is great! The picture above was taken at one of my hosting shifts by Tina Twine, who labelled it “Hip-Grinding at Ohana”. To twist a Forest Gump quote “That’s all I should say about that!”

Fun with Friends at Shazzam

I realised that my blog that is supposedly “Chronicles of Ava’s SecondLife Adventures” misses out quite a lot. It’s become more of a Destinations blog, which is fine, I like visiting new places and writing about them. But I just wanted to show other stuff I do as well when not exploring, so here’s a snapshot from yesterday. Hanging out at a club with some great friends, which is one of the most important things about SL for me. Friendships. From Left to Right: Me,Sheree and Abby.
