The Coven Meeting

Next up in my explorations of the Halloween Haunted Nieghbourhood is a very surprisingly interactive house you should definitely check out.

Arriving at the house the Vampire looks around wondering why this old place had been chosen for the meeting. She smells blood, maybe there’s snacks! The lights don’t seem to work so she picks up a lamp to see what’s here, a bloody mess greats her eyes. A human must have done this, her kind wouldn’t waste so much. It annoyed her, just the mess on the floor would sustain the average vampire for a week!

A noise comes from the next room and she freezes, the human must still be here, she would know if it was one of the Coven. The human is wearing jeans and a leather jacket, looking inside a fridge and hasn’t noticed her presence yet.

A few quick strides and she has her arm around his neck from behind and whispers menacingly in his earĀ  “Who’s your leige, fool? They need to punish you for the mess next door. You know we’re on strict quotas, all that splatter is such a waste!” Loosening her grip ever so slightly she listens to his pleading confused response, “Liege? Quotas? What are you talking about”! Pulling down the collar of his coat she sees no Clan or Coven tattoo on the back of his neck and swears. She can’t really have just walked into the house of a murdering psychopath and not a volunteer, can she?

She considers what to do,if she drains this human and is found out she’ll have gone over her quota, the penalty wasn’t worth it. Instead she decides to just do humanity a favour and jerks his head sharply hearing a crack, she steps back and lets the body fall.

Taking one last look at the scene before she goes, checking she didn’t touch anything since she entered, she heads for the door.

Pausing at the door she sees her mistake, there’s a nail missing from the house number, she’s at number 96 not 66. A few minutes later and 30 doors up the street her coven sister opens the door to the correct house “What kept you? The snaks are almost finished!”.

The Vigil

Having collected a few outfits over the Shop n Hop and other events for Halloween, I thought I’d explore the Halloween Haunted Nieghbourhood for locations to photograph them, so this is the first.

Remember the Shop n Hop finishes on the 1st of November, so some of the items may not be available after that, so be quick!

Flipping the switch by the front door and no lights come on, she sighs and picks up the lamp sat on the reception counter and ascends the dark stairwell. She’s been told the room she has to attend the midnight Vigil is at the top of the stairs to the right, so she makes her way there. Presuming the room with bars and padded walls wasn’t her destination, she takes the *other* right into a bedroom that looks like it’s not seen a duster in decades. Taking a quick look around at the dirty room, she dusts off the least dirty chair, which happened to be a wheelchair, and sits to await the family or any others that might be attending.

The rest of the place was just as creepy on the way upstairs..

Halloween 2021: Different perspectives but all fun!

Halloween is a special time of year, for different reasons for different people. For some it is a deeply religious time when rituals are performed formally or informally to honour the dead and rememer lost loved ones. You can find legimate Wiccan/Pagan organisations in SecondLife that perform these ceremonies.Ā  The opposite extreme is the very Westernised version of the holiday that is a retail exercise featuring lots of black, orange and kids dresing up to get sweets.

Wherever you feel you fit on that range doesn’t really matter in SL. You can go to the rituals, the parties, the shopping, it doesn’t really matter so log as you’re enjoying yourself.

The common theme through it all is the costumes! Whether you go for playful cute witch, some kind of monster or in my case dark creepy vampire, it’s all such fun!

There’s not much in terms of skin coverage in this outfit, but that’s kind of the idea for a vampire on the hunt. Too much clothing would just get in the way and soak up any spillage that could be drunk! The cloak is definitely a requirement though, it lets me wrap up and disappear into the shadows quickly away from witnesses!

Halloween 2021: Hell House

This one’s a little different. Much more about an adult horror approach to Halloween than the child-friendly pumpkin fest you see elsewhere.

Usually not many people read the welcome notecards given out at places in SecondLife, they’re usually just full of rules that can be abbreviated to something like “don’t be an arse, be polite”. This one was worth reading because it abbreviates to more like “If you’re offended by adult images of nudity leaning heavily towards porn.. Go No Further. You Have Been Warned.”

Obviously this didn’t stop me, so take it as fair warning that you will see such images below. I started by exploring the outside grounds, first to the left of the entrance since that’s the side you arrive at.

Then along a misty riverbank to the other side and explore some buildings back there.

It was time to go inside and see what all the fuss was about. In here at ground level there are some fairly inoffensive naked ghostly figures, the kind that could be classed as erotica.

When you mount the stairs and head upstairs however, it’s quite a different story!

Up here you’ll find lots of ghostly figures going at it like they were able to breed and the human race needed repopulating. These aren’t just static images like your regular SL “ghost” popping up to surprise you, quite a few are animated. I would advise against sitting your avatar on anything here, there’s no telling what might happen. For me this resulted in being moved somewhere I couldn’t easily leave, so I had to teleport back outside. Since I’d seen plenty inside I thought I’d see if I missed anything around the back of the house. Sure enough there’s more animated kinkiness round there too.

However before I got there I came across this stone altar with a single pink pose ball on, so I sat and it had some cool ritual type animations in that I was capturing when I got a nasty surprise. Be warned ladies, heed the local chat or you may regret the consequences of staying sat too long!

Halloween 2021: Haunted Hummingbird Isle

Next is The Haunted History of Hummingbird Isle which is by the same designer as Once Upon a Spell, but it feels a little smaller. I totally love the environment settings here, a thunderous sky with appropriate sound and rain.

The pirate ship isn’t boardable, but it definitely makes for great scenery on the beach before you proceed up the steep steps to the gardens and house.

From up here you get a great view of that cool sky again before you walk through the rain to the house.

I opened the doors and stepped through, immediately recognising the building was the same as one I saw at Dead Mans Island last year, however while the layout is the same the interior and contenst of the rooms is different so still worth exploring!

Halloween 2021: Once Upon a Spell

My explorations of SecondLife’s Haunted Houses of 2021 continues with Once Upon a Spell. I went to the last page of the list of Haunted Houses on the Destination Guide, simply because I don’t like being totally conventional.

The arrival point is at the entrance to a kind of mystical forest setting with thankfully just a couple of boards for their inworld group and Flickr (regular readers will know how much I hate lots of clutter at an arrival point). As I went forward I came to some autumnal red and gold leaved trees, I was immediately reminded of Pumpkin Town a location from last year.

Coming out of these trees, through a tunnel I arrived at a campfire in what felt like a more bayou swampy kind of place, suggested by the rickety shack on the other side of a small stretch of water.

As I continued into the forest I encountered another shack, but this one in much better condition, evidently maintained by the resident witch.

Just past here are two rows of pumpkins forming a path uphill towards a house, but I went the other way into the green darkness of the forest. This took me to another larger area of water, bordeed by waterfalls and a bridge crossing it at the far end.

I followed the lakeshore til I came to the bridge then turned back towards the pumpkin-bordered path and the house at it’s end.

TRIGGER WARNING: SPIDERS and CLOWNS BELOW!

(Yeah I know, it made me cringe typing that, why would you be reading a post about a Halloween location and not expect such things? But I know people that are sensitive to them.)

Around the back of the house is the bridge across the lake I saw earlier,at the far end of which is a big spiders web you walk through to get to the next area to explore.

Through here it opens up into another large area with a big top, a cemetery, a haunted mansion and a ghost train.

The haunted mansion was the most tempting to me and turned out to be the largest part of this area.

I’ve not shown everything here, your visit wouldn’t be fun if I did!

Halloween 2021: Skullingtown

After blogging several spooky places last year, I thought it would be fun to do the same again this year. First up is 80Days-Skullingtown.

The arrival point is in front of a tall pair of gates that instinctively you might proceed through, but wait! I did as I always do and look behind me on arrival, you should do the same here. There is a graveyard and a massive pumpkin patch back there to see first.

As you explore you’ll hear an appropriately tinny version of a tune from the film The Nightmare Before Christmas, which is quite haunting and coming from the creepy merry go round near the entrance.

Heading through the main gates you’re in small town square with lots of appropriately spooky paraphernalia scattered about around and inside the houses and towers. Some of these are just scenery, but several of them you can enter and explore. I picked the house straight ahead first, stopping at the bottom of the steps to admire its creepiness for a moment.

Looking up at the looming house I realise how damn short this sexy skirt is, good job it comes with undies!

I then had a wander around the other buildings to see what surprises were in store!

Halloween 2020: This is Halloween

“This is Halloween” quite a self confident name/claim for a location I thought when I saw it on the Destinations, so I had to have a look and see if it lived up to it.

It does certainly give you that kind of feel on arrival, the mandatoryhooded ghoulish figure, twisted trees and some pumpkins.

Behind you are some more trees with an inviting path, so that’s the way I headed

Through the trees and a dark hollow log tunnel, leads you to enchanging night view

and of course, the pumkin patch

Following the paths in any direction take you to a variety of spooky sights, I’ll include a few snaps here, but it’s worth having an explore to feel the spooky atmosphere yourself.

Does it live up to it’s namesake title? Well it has all the expected parts, the conclusion I leave you.

Halloween 2020: Forgotten Souls

Forgotten Souls is a “abandoned frontier town” type of place with some older and newer elements thrown in. The landing point drops you outside a cemetery, but you can’t enter directly from this side so I took a wander.

There appeared to be some lights in the other direction, so I headed that way and found what appeared to be an old store of some kind.

Place unsurprisingly a bit of a wreck, but some figures ehead so I headed in that direction

Which lead me to some of what must be the Lost Souls the place is named for.

I took some stairs outside a near building to give me a bit of a better view

Seeing that there appeared to just be wasteland beyond the living corpses I went back the other way to see what else the town had to offer.

First stop was obviously the Cemetery

Further along what could only be called the main street was a foreboding building on the opposite side, the Asylum.

I just had to have a peek inside..

At the end of the street there appears some kind of ruined train carriage

Seems someone was living in it for some time, but evidently now a long time ago.

following the road around I found the rear of the main street had some shop fronts

Looking at the decayed shop buildings, I almost missed a stone staircase hidden in the mist

So up I inevitably went to investigate

At the top I found a half collapsed columned structure and within it a rather disturbing scene.

I retraced my steps back out to the main street and decided to see if there was any mysteries behind the store I saw on arrival. Sure enough I found a lake behind it.

Along with a number of other buildings that I’ll leave you to explore!

Halloween 2020: Dead Mans Island

My next stop for this Halloween seasons wanderings is Dead Mans Island. The name couldn’t be more accurate, you can hardly turn anywhere without sight of a corpse, grave or some spooky sight. It’s fantastic!

I arrived in the hallway of the the regions spooky mansion, which I don’t think is the intended arrival point, but doesn’t really matter.

My view on first arrival arrival

Behind me is the main entrance leading outside

Entrance hallway

Rather than heading out, first I decided to have a look up the stairs

A creaky staircase with lights on upstairs, is that signs of life?

So I up I go and explore the rooms

Back down stairs I went through into the next room that turned out to be the kitchen, but I don’t think it’s regular food being cooked in this cauldron!

Don’t think I want to know what’s in the pot

Back the other way to the main doors outside, leading to a long pathway out into a dark forest.

Outside the gates I found this cute little night watchmen, although I expect they’d object to “cute”.

Then a glance the other way and ..uh..skeleton musicians?

Anyway straight ahead and uphill is where the path leads

At the top I find a solemn monk statue and some suggestions this is the intended Arrival point.

While I survey the forested and swampy landscape below, something unpleasant is surveying *me*.

So back down the hill to investigate what looked like a mine entrance to my left

Bones outside seem a bit foreboding but I go have a look anyway..more bodies!

Exiting the mine I cross very misty the swamp

On the far side I see a building at the top of the hill

I find it guarded by some fearsome creatures, a large Demon and some Hell Hounds.

Inside I find it was at some point a church, but I don’t think there’s been anything Holy about this place for a long time!

After a respectful moment at the altar I head out again and follow the coastline, when I stop to take a moment to look out across the water, I find a werewolf and his victim lying on the ground.

A werewolf and it’s prey

I move on hastily past so as not to interrupt it’s snack and become dessert. Just in case I duck inside a little mausoleum next to the cemetery gates

I wait inside for a few minutes to make sure he’s not followed me, it’s quite comfy!

Moving on into the cemetery it seems fairly empty, presumably because most of the dead are up and about! The main feature of the graveyard is a single large Angel statue…with no head!

Back out onto the coast path there’s a good view across to the spooky Mansion.

I wandered around the rear of the building to see if there was any more sppoks to be seen. Unsurprisingly there’s another graveyard.

Not so many here, maybe was just the homeowner personal cemetery perhaps? As I was about to head back around to the front door, I saw a light further along the coast

Maybe the houses former inhabitants aren’t at rest at all!

Even the nearby vegetation is looking far from healthy!

Dead Mans Island definitely should be on any Halloween fans list to visit.
