At the Faire last year I wandered rather aimlessly, I followed the Bubbo Owls storyline and one day I went to a NeoVictoria meet & greet, apart from that I didn’t explore much. It was that meet that would change my perspective, I just didn’t know it at the time.
This year I was at the planning meetings and discussions of what NeoVictoria may do at their meets and discussed what items they would be offering for sale and as gifts. It was this last part that was most relevant, I volunteered to make a freebie gift.
On the evening of the Wednesday before the Faire began I was invited to the “Backstage” group so I could Rez the item for visitors to purchase.
On the Thursday morning I logged back in to have an explore.
It was surreal being in the Faire before it opened. My previous experiences had always been of bustling regions full of people. As usual I didn’t really have much of a plan of what I wanted to see, I just knew I had about 3 hours before the Faire opened and there would be people everywhere. I just wanted to see as much as I could before the masses arrived.
Since the NeoVictoria store is located in Auxenio’s Pass steampunk region, that’s where I started. When I stepped outside I was blown away by the surroundings. I started walking the paths to see what I found.
With the regions being mostly empty except for store owners making final tweaks to their displays and other creators taking the time to wander, it was blissfully quiet.
I stuck mostly to the paths, with occasional detours, wanting to try and see as much as I could in the time I had. Traveling mostly clockwise around the Faire, I took in the sights of the created locations. Each one mind blowing or boggling in their design. I got about half way around before I ran out of time, but I had a large collection of snapshots taken as I went around. Here are some of my favourites.
Now I look forward to exploring the rest of the Faire!
So it’s this time of year again Fantasy Faire is upon us. Another week and more of exploring beautiful location, roleplay and shopping in aid of Relay for Life in Second Life.
Last year I visited the Faire and for the first time was able to follow their week-long roleplay storyline. That was great fun and I wrote about it in my Bubbo Owls post. This year it appears the RP is called the Grizzly Cubs and I look forward to following this years adventure.
As I’ve mentioned previously, last year I attended a Meet & Greet with the lovely folks from the NeoVictoria Project. I submitted a character and became an official member of the community. They’re holding similar Meet & Greet sessions this year, so I shall be present for at least one of them to help out. I’m also possibly providing a freebie to be given out at the NeoVictoria location at the Faire.
What else is new this year is that I applied to be one of the Official FF Bloggers. However the applications are now closed and my names not on the list. I suspect this is probably due to the quality of my regular images, admittedly lower quality, but it’s usually because they’re un-staged and my focus is the RP or story. (I’ll be remedying that for the Faire) So instead I’m going to try and complete some of their Blogger Challenges which I’ve copied below:
Faire Folk – create a character from the Fairelands
I won’t spoil things by revealing the plans, but there was talks of possible roleplay ideas, freebies and sale items for the charity the Faire supports. They’ll be finalised and released in due time, but they’ll be a lot of fun if everything comes together as planned!
A while ago I applied to RP at Liddell Correctional Facility (LCF) which you can read about in this post.
They didn’t technically accept my application, since the character role of Bounty-hunter was unsustainable. However I was able to participate in a storyline into which my character would fit: they had a mass escape.
My story centred around the tracking of an inmate by the name of Jessica May.
In the process of her escape she had taken my friend Megan Sommers, a prison guard, as a hostage.
I went to the prison to offer my services in locating Jess and Megan, they were both very keen on the idea OOCly.
Now I’ve recently tried to not use too many chat logs in my posts, they can be tedious to read, but I will include some here in places as well as summerising.
RP Scene 1: Tracking At the prison I met with an officer by the name of Frank Timberwood l and played out using some information from him and one of their computers to locate the GPS on Megan’s phone and her car, since Jess had conveniently for me, used that as her getaway vehicle.
[01:32:02] Ava Delaney looks around for a bell or buzzer to get someones attention, finding none she calls “anyone here?”
[01:32:53] Ava Delaney turns and sees an officer outside the glass doors to the yard
[01:33:00] Frank Timberwood leans against his car reading his recent reports. He then gazes and puts his attention on a stranger at the desk. He opens up the door and walks up to her “Hello there, is there a problem?”
[01:34:57] Ava Delaney smiles “no problem, in fact I’m here to help” holds out her Bounty hunters licence ID ” I believe you’re missing a few of your..guests?
[01:35:26] Ava Delaney : name is Delaney, Ava Delaney.
[01:36:51] Ava Delaney : I also have this “reaches into a pocket and holds out a letter on LCF headed paper requesting her assistance
[01:37:46] Frank Timberwood nods as he sees that she’s a bounty hunter “Hmm, yes we do. You must be the bounty hunter I heard about.” he says seeing the paper “Well, welcome aboard on the manhunt.”
[01:39:30] Ava Delaney smiles “Thankyou, now the papers didn’t reveal which officer was taken, but given the fact she’s not answered her phone since the escape..it was Somers wasn’t it?”
[01:40:05] Long Range: Vadik30 Resident [46m]
[01:41:32] Frank Timberwood nods “Yes, it has come to our attention that a certain Jessica May has her at the moment. We don’t know her location, yet.”
[01:42:52] Ava Delaney : Damnit. I knew her attitude would get her in trouble one of these days, or just being in the wrong place in here I suppose.
[01:43:04] Ava Delaney : Well I can help with locating her, she and I have been friends for a long time, since we both do dangerous work, we put certain measures in place.
[01:44:51] Ava Delaney : Can you get me the contents of her locker? Or let me see it?
[01:45:16] Frank Timberwood raises an eyebrow and nods “Sure… Follow me.”
[01:46:07] Ava Delaney : Which ones hers?
[01:46:19] Frank Timberwood points at one of the lockers “It’s the third one, it has her name labelled on it.”
[01:47:54] Ava Delaney goes to the indicated locker and opens it and starts to rummage
[01:49:27] Ava Delaney goes through various items, purse, civvie clothes but something is missing..and turns back to the officer “No phone”
[01:50:16] Frank Timberwood folds his arms “It might be in the car that May took to escape with Sommers… I think it was Sommer’s personal car or maybe Sommers has it with her.”
[01:50:47] Ava Delaney : well she wouldn’t have left home without it, so yes, she must have left it in her car..that should make this a bit easier
[01:51:35] Ava Delaney : if the battery has held up, it’s been a few days since the escape
[01:52:06] Frank Timberwood nods “But why do you need the phone? Don’t you have her number?”
[01:52:20] Ava Delaney : but if not, I’ll locate the car, but I’ll need some info from you for that
[01:52:36] Ava Delaney : Sorry, I didn’t catch your name..?
[01:53:09] Frank Timberwood : “Officer Timberwood, but you can call me Frank.”
[01:53:56] Ava Delaney : Thankyou Frank, well the phone should be traceable if there’s any juice left in the battery.
[01:54:47] Ava Delaney : or if the inmate was dumb enough to charge it
[01:54:52] Ava Delaney : or use it
[01:55:47] Frank Timberwood nods “Which she probably has used. Which is dumb for her but good for us.”
[01:56:22] Ava Delaney : indeed, can I use a computer here?
[01:57:18] Frank Timberwood points towards the desk “Sure, you can use the ones on the desk.”
[01:57:40] Ava Delaney : despite being friends Megan obviously didn’t want nosey old me tracking her wherever , but I can if needed.
[01:57:53] Ava Delaney heads out to the reception area
[01:58:12] Frank Timberwood opens the door “Use the one in the middle, that one is mostly used to track suspects down.”
[01:59:54] Ava Delaney takes a set then realises the pc is obviously locked “can you login so I can get a broweser up?
[02:00:51] Frank Timberwood goes towards the computer and types in the password to login to the databases “There ye go, if there’s something… Ask me so I can be a bit of an aid to you as well.”
[02:03:50] Ava Delaney types in a seemingly random address into a web browser that’ blank apart from a single text entry box and types in a code, taking her into another page of input boxes. She turns to Frank, need a few details, they might seem random, but dhe changs them regularly.
[02:04:11] Ava Delaney : Can you remind me her badge number?
[02:04:47] Frank Timberwood : “From who exactly?”
[02:05:27] Ava Delaney : sorry,Megans officer badge number
[02:06:01] Frank Timberwood : “Ah yes, I think it was…” he gives out Sommers’ badge number
[02:06:25] Ava Delaney enters the code
[02:07:10] Ava Delaney : “And she had locker number 3..” enters that in a box
[02:07:36] Ava Delaney : She didn’t want me using this uless I’d actually been here and spoken to someone, i.e. a real emergency
[02:08:21] Ava Delaney : last question, which inmate would Megan consider the most dangerous?
[02:08:44] Ava Delaney : you know them I don’t obviously
[02:09:56] Frank Timberwood he scratches his head “That’s a tough one… I would say Jessica May as I’ve heard that she is a corrupt officer and a manipulator.”
[02:12:01] Ava Delaney the name in and hits Enter. Two sets of co-ordinates appear on the screen. One labelled Phone, the other Car. Turns to Frank.
[02:12:27] Ava Delaney : There we go, somewhere to start
[02:13:39] Ava Delaney : I did say “certain measures”
[02:13:53] Frank Timberwood : “Alrighty, that’s good. So what now?”
[02:14:13] Ava Delaney : Now, I go hunting
[02:15:01] Ava Delaney taps the co-ordinates into her phone and closes the page.
[02:16:01] Ava Delaney : You have a spare radio I can borrow? So I can tell you where to send the van?
[02:16:56] Frank Timberwood takes out his radio and hands it over “Here ye go, I bet you know how to use it right?”
[02:18:17] Ava Delaney smiles and nods “Yes, thanks” and stashes it inside her jacket. I’ll be off then, hopefully next time we meet I’ll have Sommers and May with me.
[02:19:31] Frank Timberwood nods “Take care my friend, Jessica May is a dangerous woman.”
[02:20:08] Ava Delaney smiles over her shoulder as she heads out the door ” So am I”.
RP Scene 2: Hunting
The location of Megan’s car was in a rather rundown part of town, the only place showing any signs of life was a tatty looking bar with a couple of probable prostitutes loitering outside.
Unsurprisingly I found Jess inside having a celebratory drink enjoying her newfound freedom, but no sign of Megan.
Jess hadn’t thought to leave the car somewhere further from where she might be found. This confirmed what I’d been told, that while Jess was psychotic murderous bitch, she wasn’t too bright.
(I should clarify here for those not so familiar with RP, that I am referring to the fictional characters described personality, created by their typist. Most definitely Not calling the real-life person behind the keyboard stupid.)
There followed an inevitable confrontation in the bar where I was too bold and ended up taking a gunshot in the chest as a result. Thank heavens for modern bullet proof vests.
Jess bolted out the door and met an accomplice, by the time I was up on my feet and able to pursue the pair of them had quite a head start.
I came in sight of them again near the waterfront where they were already in a boat, seems Jess might not be so smart but her unknown accomplice was.
I fired a few shots at them but I couldn’t risk killing Jess because I didn’t know where Megan was and the boat was too small for her to be onboard.
So I made a call on the radio I’d borrowed from officer Timberwood to update him and suggest they call the coastguard to follow them.
[06:25:15] Ava Delaney stands on the rocks looking out over the harbour as her quarry escapes. She takes out the radio she got from Frank and switches it on “Calling officer Timberwood, this is Ava Delaney. I have an update on Jessica May. Over”
[06:26:49] Frank Timberwood takes out his radio and responds “This is Timberwood, loud and clear, over.”
[06:30:06] Ava Delaney : I found Sommers car right where I expected it to be, jumpsuit in the backseat and signs of blood. Found May at a close by bar but she took a shot at me and slipped past me.
[06:30:29] Ava Delaney : She has an accomplice tall unidentified blonde male
[06:31:14] Ava Delaney : he had a boat waiting
[06:31:43] Frank Timberwood : “Do you need a medic to come to your location to heal that shot?”
[06:32:57] Ava Delaney : Negative, I was wearing a vest, so just gonna be sore and bruised. They were last seen heading west at Morelock Point
[06:33:24] Ava Delaney : Better notify the coastguard
[06:34:02] Frank Timberwood : “Do you need backup, or any assistance?” he hears her mentioning the coastguard “I’ll notify them to check the west side of Morelock Point, over.”
[06:37:18] Ava Delaney : “I’m fine for now, I’ll call you again when I have more information, for now I’m going back to that bar and search around for signs of Sommers. Over”
[06:38:17] Frank Timberwood : “Alright, take care, Ms. Delaney. Over.”
[06:41:03] Ava Delaney : “Thanks, Timberwood. Delaney out”
[06:41:19] Ava Delaney stashes the radio safely away
That unfortunately became the last part of the chase I was able to play out, but not the end of the story. Due to a combination of timezone differences and the inconvenience of the Christmas holidays, I was unable to make it to the locating Megan or the Capture of Jess stages of the storyline. Which was very disappointing.
However I did make a visit to Jess at the prison after her capture. When I was supposedly dropping off an application to become a guard at the prison, which never happened, but also to gloat a little. Although obviously I was not too pleased about getting shot, I conceded that I was pushing my luck in the situation resulting the damage to my rather expensive vest.
As you may have seen from Jess’s prison record above she was a Death Row inmate. This meant her escape and subsequent re-capture didn’t really change her sentence, just delayed it a little while. I was unable to attend the event but I have some pictures taken on the day, provided by Jess. You can see however that they are quite thorough and take it very seriously.
The original date scheduled for her execution was 16th of January 2020, in the end the (Roleplay) Death of Jessica May by electrocution (or “zap-zap chair” as the group call it) happened on 15th of February 2020.
Jess has since created a new character to play at the prison, which is fairly common in these situations. The new character may well have a different temperament, attitude and definitely a different appearance. Just as an actor plays a character in a movie or play.
